'High risk' prisoner re-arrested

A high-risk prisoner who absconded from Lisburn Courthouse on June 7 has been re-arrested by police this morning.

David Albert Taggart, 24, had been on the run for over a month after he attacked civilian security guards and fled from the courthouse building. He had been due to appear in Lisburn court to answer charges of attempted murder and making threats to kill.

Taggart, originally from the Belfast's Shankill area, was arrested by Lisburn police officers this morning in the Antrim Road area of Belfast at around 6am.

PSNI Chief Superintendent Ken Henning said: "The re-arrest of David Taggart is as a result of very intensive policing. I commend all those involved in the capture of this high-risk prisoner."
