Police crack down on money laundering

Police have searched a number of premises in Counties Armagh and Down as part of ongoing investigations into money laundering.

A total of 13 properties, including a number of business premises, were searched in the Bessbrook, Banbridge and Newry areas over a five day period.

Computers, a large amount of financial documentation and £10,000 worth of cash was seized.

The Financial Investigation Unit of the PSNI also uncovered a small amount of class ‘A’ and ‘C’ drugs during a search of a private residence.

One man has been charged with possession of class ‘A’ drugs with intent to supply, and is due to appear in Newry Magistrates Court on 6th July

Five Men Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder
Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on 13 March this year. He was taken to hospital but died the next day. The PSNI also searched two properties in the area. The suspects have been taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

Woman Arrested Over Attempted Murder Of Police Officers
A 20-year-old woman has been arrested in connection the the attempted murder of police officers in 2015. Up to eight shots were fired at a parked police vehicle in Rossnareen Avenue in west Belfast on 26 November. Two male officers who were in the car at the time were not injured, however they were left badly shaken.

Three Men Arrested In Proactive Operation In Newtownards
Three men has been arrested as part of a proactive policing operation in Newtownards. The men, aged 21, 24 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of various related drugs offences after a police stopped and searched in the Castlebawn Drive area.

Man Sentenced For £2m Cannabis Seizure
A 52-year-old man has been sentenced to prison following the seizure of a significant quantity of cannabis in 2018. Chang Mang Wang was handed a two-year and three-month sentence at Belfast Crown Court for possession and conspiracy to supply Class B controlled drugs, as well as a two-year sentence for immigration offences.

£250k Resurfacing Announced For Newry Road
A major £250,000 road resurfacing scheme has been announced for the A25 Newry Road. The works will comprise of approximately 0.65km of carriageway resurfacing of the A25 Newry Road through Camlough village, from south of the U1583, known as Hall Road, to just beyond C217 Chapel Road roundabout.
