Safety scheme hopes to reduce attacks on emergency services

A new scheme has been launched by the Belfast Community Safety Partnership to reduce attacks on emergency services in west Belfast.

Pupils from primary and secondary schools will meet with ambulance crew, police and fire officers to listen to how attacks affect them and the community.

Speaking at the launch of the scheme, Divisional Fire Officer John Wilson said he hoped the pupils would come to see emergency workers as people they see day and daily who they are comfortable and friendly with.

Recent figures indicate that there have been more than 2,500 attacks on emergency services in the area in the past year.
