Unofficial strike action affects postal deliveries

Postal deliveries across Belfast have been affected today following unofficial industrial action by Royal Mail workers in the Toome Street depot.

The strike is believed to have occurred when overtime payment was demanded for work that managers claimed could be done in normal hours. When this was refused 250 staff walked out.

A spokesperson for the Communication Workers Union said: "It is basically about non-agreed working practices."

"Royal Mail this morning set in motion non-agreed working practices and suspended 30 members of staff in the city centre area of Belfast that led to a dispute with the other members of staff who walked out."

Tuesday’s strike affected postal services in Belfast Central, North, South and West.
