Man killed in hijacked car accident named
A man who was travelling in a hijacked car has died following a road traffic collision in south Belfast on Thursday.
The dead man, who has been named as Stephen Martin McDaid, 17, of Salisbury Avenue, north Belfast, was driving the stolen car when it collided with other vehicles, including a taxi, at around 8pm on Thursday.
Two others in the car are reported to be in a critical condition in hospital.
Detectives said the car was hijacked from the Botanic Avenue area 45 minutes earlier and had been used in a till snatch at a filling station in the Newtownabbey area.
Police say they were not chasing the vehicle at the time of the accident, but the ombudsman's office has been informed.

Car Hijacked In West Belfast
Detectives are appealing for information following a car hijacking in the Hawthorne Street area of west Belfast on Saturday. Shortly before 9pm, a woman was pulled from a black Peugeot 3008 by a man described as tall and wearing a hat and dark clothing.

Man's Car Hijacked In South Belfast
A man has had his car hijacked in south Belfast. Two men, one who was armed with a knife, approached the driver of a Volkswagon Golf parked in Windsor Avenue at around 5.15am. The man was threatened and after a short struggle they drove off towards the Lisburn Road.

Car hijacked in north Belfast
A man has been injured during the hijacking of a car in north Belfast. The incident occurred at around 8.25pm on Thursday evening when the hijacker pulled the man from his vehicle in Fortwilliam Park and then drove off in the direction of the Antrim Road. The victim sustained minor cuts and bruises.
