DUP rule out SF power sharing
The DUP will not share power with Sinn Fein, party leader Ian Paisley said today following a meeting with Prime Minister Tony Blair in Downing Street.
The North Antrim MP described today's meeting with Mr Blair as "very helpful and in many ways encouraging" but maintained that any "new start" would not involve the DUP sharing power with Sinn Fein.
"I don't see it because I don't trust them and the people don't trust them," Dr Paisley said.
"Mr Adams said today that the IRA would never be disbanded - so if that is his view, then that is it."
Yesterday, Dr Paisley and his leadership team met with US Ambassador and Special Envoy to Northern Ireland Mitchell Reiss in London.
The meeting, which took place over lunch in Westminster, saw the DUP outline the need to “make progress on a peaceful and democratic basis leaving behind those who are still entangled with paramilitary and criminal activity”.
Meanwhile, Mr Adams, along with senior negotiator Martin McGuinness, Pat Doherty, Michelle Gildernew, Conor Murphy and Mary Lou McDonald are to meet Mr Blair later on Thursday.
