Police continue to question man in 1981 murder probe

Police are still questioning a man in connection with the murder of a nine-year-old girl nearly 25 years ago.

Jennifer Cardy, from Ballinderry in Co Antrim, was snatched as she cycled to a friend's house in August 1981.

Her body was found by a fishermen at McKee's Dam near Hillsborough just six days after her bike was discovered in nearby bushes.

Robert Black, 58, is in custody at Antrim police station, having travelled from Wakefield in England to be interviewed.

It is understood that Mr Black was working as a van driver in 1981 and was delivering posters across the UK, including Northern Ireland, at the time the murder took place.

Man arrested in connection with 1981 murder
Detectives investigating the murder of a nine-year-old girl in Co Down nearly 25 years ago have today arrested a man on suspicion of her murder. Jennifer Cardy was discovered dead by two fishermen at McKee's Dam near Hillsborough in 1981 after being snatched as she cycled to a friend's house on 12 August that same year.

RUC Murderer Sentenced To 20 Years
A man who was convicted of the murder of a 25-year-old RUC constable in 1981 has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison. However, he will only serve two years under the Good Friday Agreement. John Proctor was murdered by the IRA in the car park of the Mid-Ulster Hospital on 14 September 1981, having just visited his wife and unborn child.

Man Jailed For Life For 1981 IRA Murder
A 57-year-old man has been sentenced to life in jail for the 1981 murder of a police reservist in a Co Londonderry hospital. Seamus Martin Kearney, 57, of Gorteade Road, Maghera, was found guilty of murdering 25-year-old John Proctor, who was killed by the IRA as he left a hospital after visiting his newborn son.

New Development In Jennifer Cardy Murder Case
There has been a new development in the unsolved murder case of Northern Ireland schoolgirl Jennifer Cardy. According to reports, detectives who questioned convicted child killer Robert Black about the murder have handed a report to the Public Prosecution Service in Belfast.
