Five-year-old girl dies from meningitis
A five-year-old girl from Newcastle, Co Down has died from meningitis, it has emerged today.
The child, who has not yet been named, became ill earlier this week and is understood to have died on Thursday night in hospital.
Precautionary measures are believed to have been taken to safeguard the family and pupils and staff at St Mary's Girls primary school where the young girl attended.
Health experts are stressing that the risk level is small.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

Meningitis Cases At County Down School
A primary school child has meningitis and another at the same Northern Ireland school may have the infection. The second case at the Our Lady and St Patrick's primary school in Downpatrick is being treated as a "probable case" and the Public Health Agency (PHA) is investigating.

Girl, 12, Killed In Newry Beach Buggy Crash
A 12-year-old girl has died in a crash involving a beach buggy in Newry. The girl was travelling on the buggy with another 14-year-old girl when they collided with a pick-up trick at around 2.50pm on the Flagstaff Road in Cloughogue on Saturday, 18 November. The 12-year-old girl died from her injuries.

Three Teenagers Arrested Over Co Antrim Murder
Police investigating the murder of Nelson Cheung in Co Antrim earlier this month have arrested a three teenage girls. Mr Cheung, 65, died after he was stabbed in an attack on the Caddy Road on 8 January. It is understood Mr Cheung and his wife were attacked after their car was forced off the road.
