Man remanded in custody on murder charge

A Co Down man has been remanded in custody today after being charged with murder.

James Joseph McEvoy, 26, from Rathmore Road in Newry appeared at Armagh Magistrate's Court on Tuesday accused of shooting Johnny Graham as he parked his car at a house in the nationalist Ardcarne Park area of Newry at about 1am last Thursday. The 20-year-old victim died in hospital a short time later.

A detective told the court that the defendant replied: "Definitely not guilty" when he was charged.

He was remanded in custody until May 18.

Man remanded in custody over firearm charge
A 34-year-old man has appeared in Belfast Magistrates Court today charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition. Ronald Alexander Hoy, from Ganton Park, Tullycarnet in Dundonald, was charged with having an Uzi sub-machine gun and 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition with intent to endanger life.

Man Remanded Over Rape Charge
A man has been remanded in custody charged with raping a woman in County Tyrone. The 20-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons has also been charged with assault and grievous bodily harm to the woman. The charge relates to an attack in Stewartstown in County Tyrone on Sunday.
