Residents flee burning apartment block

Police are appealing for information after residents had to flee from an apartment block in Londonderry early this morning after a fire started in a number of letterboxes.

Twenty-five people living in Foyleview apartments on Strand Road were moved out after the alarm was raised at 2am on Tuesday however it is not clear how the blaze started. There are no further details at present.

Elsewhere, a house in Carnmoney, Co Antrim has been targeted by arsonists on Monday.

The blaze broke out at around 6pm destroying a conservatory and causing damage to the back of the property. No one was inside the house when the fire occurred.

Police have appealed for anyone with information on either incident to contact them on 028 9065 0222.

Fire crews deal with separate fires in Co Antrim
Police are appealing for information following two suspicious fires in Co Antrim in the early hours of Friday morning. The first fire was discovered at a factory unit in north Belfast at around 12 midnight. It is believed the blaze started when paper inside the unit was set alight. Some windows and two other units were damaged in the fire.

Two Fires At Derelict Factory In Co Tyrone Being Treated As Arson
Two fires at a derelict factory in Co Tyrone are being treat as arson. The first blaze started at Herdman's Mill in Sion Mills on Friday, 10 June, which caused substantial damage. The second fire was started on Saturday, 11 June, at around 8.30pm, and caused further damage. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Fatal House Fire In Newtownards
A woman in her 30s has died in a fire at a house in Newtownards, Co. Down. The fire occurred at a house in Ilex Avenue at around 5.30pm and the woman is reported to have died at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is being conducted by police who have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Orange Hall 'gutted' in fire
Police in County Down are appealing for information following a fire at an Orange Hall in the early hours of Friday morning. The blaze is understood to have started at the premises on the junction of Moat Street and Union Street in Donaghadee shortly before 3am.
