Girlfriend of security guard taken hostage during robbery

Police have released further details following Tuesday’s armed robbery of a security firm in the outskirts of Belfast.

It is understood a woman was taken from her home in the Belvoir area of Castlereagh in the early hours while her partner, an employee of Brinks security, was given instructions to drive to the Upper Lisburn Road area of south Belfast and hand over a large sum of cash, thought to be around £1 million, to an unknown party.

Once this handover had taken place the woman was taken to the Annadale area of south Belfast and released unharmed, .

Police investigating the incident are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Belvoir area, Annadale area or Upper Lisburn Road area from midnight through to approximately 8am on the Tuesday morning.

Police have launched an investigation after a gun and ammunition were recovered during a search in south Belfast. The discovery was made in the Annadale Crescent area on Wednesday, 16 November. The items have been taken away for forensic examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man and child die in separate road accidents
A man and child have died in separate road accidents yesterday. The man died after the motorcycle he was riding was in collision with a lorry on the Tandragee Road, Newry. The motorcyclist, who was riding a Honda motorcycle, suffered serious injuries in the collision, which occurred around 7.30pm.
