Delegates arrive in Belfast ahead of Psychology conference
Around 400 delegates have arrived in Belfast to attend the 27th annual Congress of Psychology Students in Ireland.
This year’s event, which is taking place at Queen’s University, will discuss a number of topics including on-line dating, binge drinking, attitudes to refugees, Internet sex offenders, finger length and attractiveness, college students' awareness of STDs and children watching violence on the news.
The congress will be officially opened at 7pm on Friday by Professor Noel Sheehy, Head of the School of Psychology at Queen's.
The keynote speaker on Friday evening will be Dr Monica Whitty from Queen's. Dr Whitty is an expert in cyber-psychology, and will give a talk on the psychology of on-line dating.
On Saturday evening, the winning presentations will be announced and prizes will be awarded.
The keynote speaker on Saturday is forensic psychologist Dr Lorraine Sheridan, from the University of Leicester. Dr. Sheridan's talk is entitled ‘Being stalked: the victim's perspective and directions for change.’

Belfast Zoo to receive award
Belfast Zoo, in partnership with Queen's University's Scholl of Psychology, has today received a prestigious ward from the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ for ‘Best Research Project’. This is the highest award given by the BIAZA, and was given for the innovative research on ‘Auditory Enrichment for Zoo-housed Gorillas’.
