Policing Board wants to improve three key areas
The Northern Ireland Policing Board today outlined three key areas it wants to improve on over the next three years.
The Board, which published its aims in its new Corporate Plan for the period 1 April 2005 – 31 March 2008, said it wants to improve on ‘Effectiveness, Efficiency and Public Confidence’.
Speaking about the new Plan, Policing Board Chairman, Professor Sir Desmond Rea, said: “In drawing up the work programme for the next three years considerable thought has been given to the lessons learnt in the early life of the Board which may have bearing on future work, the many new challenges ahead and issues likely to have a major impact on policing.
“Supporting the police towards the ends of effective and efficient policing and holding the Chief Constable to account for the delivery of those ends will assist in gaining the confidence of the whole community. Since that is the twofold role of the Board it is therefore appropriate that the strategic focus of the new plan is centred around the three key areas of Public Confidence, Effectiveness and Efficiency.”
In addition to setting out detailed objectives for the Board to meet over the next three years, the Corporate Plan also sets out the Board’s key responsibilities and core values; funding requirements and its commitment to improving performance.
