Pensioner attacked at home during burglary

Police are appealing for information after a 79-year-old man was attacked by a gang of masked men at his home on the outskirts of west Belfast.

The incident occurred at the man’s home in Glengoland Avenue, just off the Stewartstown Road, at about 9pm on Wednesday.

Four men, armed with a gun and mallet, broke into the house and threatened the victim before throwing him to the floor and ransacking the house.

The man was left extremely shocked but uninjured in the attack.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the attack to contact detectives in Lisburn on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Man Charged After Glenarm Shooting
Detectives investigating the incident on Feystown Road on Monday, 25 November, have charged a 41-year-old man with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and criminal damage. The accused is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, 28 November.

Man Jailed For Sexual Abuse Of Teenager
A 56-year-old man from Newtownabbey has been jailed for eight months for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in 2006. Gary Thompson was convicted of two counts of indecent assault. The victim, who is now 33, waived her right to anonymity to speak out about the abuse.

Belfast Man Jailed For 27 Years For Child Sex Abuse
A Belfast man has been jailed for 27 years after admitting to a horrific catalogue of child sex abuse. David Andrews, 55, pleaded guilty to 130 charges, including attempted rape and sexual communication with a child. The offences involved 47 victims, 46 of whom were children.
