Police investigate separate arson attacks

Police are appealing for information following separate arson attacks at the weekend.

In west Belfast the occupants of a house in Falcarragh Drive discovered two cars on fire outside their property at around 2.30am on Sunday.

Such was the intensity of the blaze, the front door of the house was damaged however no one was injured in the incident. A motive for the attack is not known.

Elsewhere at the weekend, a fire which destroyed a business premise in Newtownabbey is being treated as arson.

Two lorries were destroyed in the blaze which occurred at business premises on the Sanda Road. Another two lorries also sustained minor damage.

Fire injures five in Ballymurphy house blaze
A suspected arson attack on a house in west Belfast has injured five people. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at the house in Whitecliff Parade in the Ballymurphy area at around 1.30am. Four women were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation while a fifth person suffered leg injuries after jumping from a first floor window.

Newry City Fire Tackled
A major blaze was tackled at a derelict building in Newry last night. Six fire crews, backed by an hydraulic platform and water tanker, battled successfully to prevent flames spreading from a former Autopart store to surrounding buildings at Monaghan street and Upper Edward Street in the city. The cause of the outbreak is being investigated.

Suspected Arson Attack On Sinn Féin Office
Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a suspected arson attack at a Sinn Féin office building on the Andersonstown Road in west Belfast in the early hours of this morning, Monday 20 August. Issuing the appeal, Inspector McCullough said: "The fire was reported to us at around 4:50am.

Suspected Arson Attack In Belfast
An investigation has been launched into a suspected arson attack in south Belfast. Shortly before 3.30am on Friday, a car was set on fire in the Malone Avenue area of the city. The blaze spread to a house nearby, causing damage to the ground floor window of the property. Police have said they believe the fire was started deliberately.
