Clyde withdraws from NI squad

Wolves defender Mark Clyde has been withdrawn from the Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming qualifiers against England and Poland.

The 22-year-old has been suffering from a knee injury and following treatment was informed that he may require surgery to rectify the problem.

The only other doubt for Northern Ireland ahead of Saturday’s game at Old Trafford is Sunderland defender George McCartney who has a groin strain.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Steve Davis has said his side have nothing to fear going into the England game.

Davis, who will be earning his second cap on Saturday if selected, said that while England were overwhelming favourites his side could pull off a shock result.

"England will be massive favourites, but that doesn't always guarantee a win," Davis said in an interview with the Aston Villa website, www.avfc.co.uk.

"We've started to move in the right direction under Lawrie Sanchez and hopefully we'll give a good account of ourselves. The pressure is all on England as favourites and you see in club football that the underdogs can cause upsets from time to time.

"They're top of the group and anything less than a win is a bad result for them. That means they're under pressure and we can make the most of that."

Davis is likely to line up alongside Damien Johnson and Jeff Whitley in the centre of a five man midfield on Saturday.

He won his first cap in last month’s 1-0 defeat to Canada at Windsor Park.
