NI cinemas to go digital
Cinemas across Northern Ireland and the Republic are to become the first countries in the world to go 'digital', it has been confirmed.
All movie houses in both jurisdictions are to have their traditional 35mm film projectors replaced with digital projectors thus ending the days of "flickering and scratching" associated with movie going of old.
Nicholas Clay, Chairman and CEO of Avica, the company behind the move, said: "We are proud to be able to bring the benefits of digital cinema to theatre-goers throughout Ireland, and thrilled to provide the technology which will enable the country to be the first in the world to make this move into the future of cinema.”
Avica Europe will be supplying over 500 cinema screens with the new projectors, a move that is likely to be followed by countries across Europe.
