Lymphoedema services consultation launched
The Department of Health has recommended the establishment of a specialist network of lymphoedema services across Northern Ireland.
The recommendation comes as the Department issued a consultation report outlining recommendations for the future development of lymphoedema services in the province.
The report recommends the establishment of a specialist network of lymphoedema services managed by fully trained lymphoedema practitioners who would operate from specialist clinics in Belfast City, Antrim, Altnagelvin, Craigavon and the Ulster Hospitals.
The Department said it wants to hear views on the report’s recommendations from patients, carers, professionals and anyone with an interest in lymphoedema services so that it can be sure that “the report is setting the right direction for the future development and delivery of lymphoedema care”.
Copies of the report can be found on the Department’s website www.dhsspsni.gov.uk. The period of public consultation continues until 7 June 2005.

£100 million boost for Ulster Hospital
Health Minister Shaun Woodward has announced £100 million for the first phase of investment for the Ulster Hospital. This money will provide seven new theatres, a 16-bed critical care unit, new laboratories and a sterile services department. In addition, a new state-of-the-art renal unit and maternity unit are currently being built.
