Motorcyclist dies in road accident

A motorcyclist has died following a road traffic accident in Co Down on Friday.

The accident occurred on the Old Ballynahinch Road between Lisburn and Ballynahinch at around 3.30pm when the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car.

The condition of the driver is not yet known, however today’s fatality brings the total number of deaths on Northern Ireland’s roads this year to 21.

Last year's death toll on Northern Ireland's roads was 147.

Elsewhere in Co Down, police are appealing for information after a substantial number of cars had their tyres slashed in Portaferry after a number of youth's went on a rampage.

An oil tank at a house was also punctured during the incidents which occurred late on Thursday night.

Police officers have asked car owners in the village to check their vehicles and to contact them if there has been any damage.

Serious Road Accident In L'Derry
Police are appealing for witnesses of a serious road accident in Maghera, Co L'Derry, on Sunday night. A man in his 20s is in a critical condition in hospital following the two car collision on the Coleraine Road. It is understood a number of people were injured in the collision but none of them seriously.
