Several people escape injury in gun attack

Several people have escaped injury following a gun attack on a flat in Co Down overnight.

Three shots were fired into the flat in the Hillcrest area of Bangor at about 10pm on Tuesday.

Police say two youths, who were wearing hooded tops, were seen running off towards the Abbots area of the Whitehill Estate after the shots were fired.

Detectives have removed a number of items from the flat for scientific examination and have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

Elsewhere, a pensioner has been treated for shock after two teenage robbers forced their way into her home in east Belfast.

The teenagers pushed past the woman who is in her 70s when she opened the front door of her home at Shandon Park at about 10pm on Tuesday.

One of the assailants kept the woman in the hallway while the other searched the living room and her handbag for cash before escaping with a sum of money.

The pensioner was eventually able to raise the alarm at a neighbour's house.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
