Man arrested in connection with McCartney murder
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Belfast man Robert McCartney.
The 33-year-old father of two was stabbed to death during a "bar brawl" in Belfast city centre last month.
Earlier on Tuesday, PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde said he was "not impressed" by the news that the IRA had expelled three of its members as a result of an internal investigation by the republican group into the murder.
"I'm not that impressed by illegal organisations ejecting people who have committed illegal acts," Mr Orde said. "This was not committed just by three people. We are looking to gather evidence against anyone that was involved in the actual offence, or in a conspiracy to commit the offence or in the affray around the offence."
Meanwhile, Belfast City Council is to debate a motion demanding justice for the family of Mr McCartney on Tuesday evening.
SDLP councillor Pat McCarthy said the motion would call upon the entire community to show "the same courage and dignity displayed by Mr McCartney's family".
On Sunday, hundreds of people gathered in Belfast’s Short Strand to hear impassioned pleas from the family of Mr McCartney who called for those behind his death to come forward.

David Cameron to meet with McCartney sisters
Conservative party leader David Cameron is to meet with the sisters of murder victim Robert McCartney during his second visit to the province this year. McCartney sister threatened in Short Strand
A sister of murdered Belfast man Robert McCartney has claimed she was threatened at her home in the Short Strand area of the city. Paula McCartney said a woman told her she would be put out of the area and also that her family had to stop handing out leaflets about a vigil in Robert’s memory when they were confronted by about a dozen people.
