DSD announces £300,000 facelift for Limavady

The Department for Social Development, through its North West Development Office, has begun work on an environmental improvement scheme in Limavady.

The £300,000 scheme, developed by the North West Development Office in partnership with DRD Roads Service and Limavady Borough Council, will see work being carried out in Connell Street.

It is hoped that the environmental improvement work will transform an area that is currently “underused and failing to reach its full potential,” into an “inviting civic space that helps create an attractive, safe and sustainable environment”.

The redesign of the area in and immediately around the Connell Street car park, will incorporate demolition works, resurfacing, tree planting and soft landscaping, new boundary walls and upgraded street lighting.

The North West Development Officer, Declan O’Hare, said: "This scheme is part of North West Development Office’s ongoing programme of works in Limavady.

“It will complement the Newtown Square Scheme that was successfully completed last year.”

The Acting Town Clerk for Limavady, Victor Wallace, said the improvements would enhance the visual amenity of the area by breaking up the hard metalled areas and by providing a tree pedestrian access.
