Pensioner hospitalised following burglary

Police are appealing for information after a pensioner was left hospitalised after her home was robbed in Co Down last night.

The incident occurred at around 8pm on Tuesday when five men called at the 82-year-old’s house at Knockchree Avenue in Kilkeel. The men pushed past her and ransacked a number of rooms before leaving in a large dark vehicle.

The woman is suffering from shock and is also being treated for cuts to her face and chest.

Elsewhere, a number of houses in east Belfast and Newtwonards have been targeted by bogus callers.

A gang of three or four men posing as Water Service employees ransacked a number of homes in the Summerhill, Ballyhackamore, Dundonald and Newtownards areas between 4pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Police have appealed for anyone with information concerning the incidents to contact them.
