Two cars set alight in Co Derry arson attack
Police are appealing for witnesses following an arson attack on two cars in Co Londonderry early this morning.
The incident occurred at around 5.30am on the Goshaden Road in Killaloo.
A couple and their two children, who were asleep in a house adjacent to where the cars were parked, had to flee their home from the resulting blaze but escaped injury. The front of the couple’s house suffered scorch damage.
Police have ruled out any sectarian or paramilitary-related motive for the incident.
Elsewhere, police in Newtownards are treating a fire which extensively damaged a derelict school building on the Portaferry Road in the town as suspicious.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 9pm on Monday and subsequently closed the Portaferry Road and Castle Street which has since been re-opened.
Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area at around 8.45pm and witnessed any suspicious activity to contact them on 028 9181 8080 or Crimetoppers on 0800 555 111.
