Hotel expansion boost for Belleek tourism

A Co Fermanagh hotel is to undergo an extensive redevelopment plan costing nearly £750,000.

The Hotel Carlton in Belleek will undergo the £741,000 expansion, which is likely to create 18 full and part-time jobs, shortly.

It will add 16 double rooms and on-site leisure facilities in a three storey extension to the existing building and lead to the hotel achieving Northern Ireland Tourist Board 3 star certification, which will allow it to enter new markets such as coach tour and group leisure.

Commenting on the project which has been backed by Invest NI, the hotel's owner Sheamus Rooney said: “We’re working hard to meet the changing needs of our customers and are examining key market segments and identifying new areas for business development.

“This investment and the achievement of 3 star accreditation will allow us to attract new customers and extend the season. It will position the Hotel Carlton as a major provider of high quality tourist accommodation in this area.”

Managing Director in Invest NI, Leslie Ross, added: “This significant investment will allow the Hotel Carlton to take advantage of market opportunities and reinforce the enormous tourism potential.

“It will create an internationally competitive offering and ensure the operational efficiency of the business. Invest NI is keen to support tourist facilities such as the Hotel Carlton that have a clearly defined strategy for growth and a focus on increasing capability and competitiveness.”

Work on the redevelopment will begin shortly and is due to be completed by summer 2005.
