Fourth man arrested in connection with stabbing
Police have arrested a fourth person in connection with the murder of a man at a Belfast pub on Sunday.
Robert McCartney, 33, from Mountpottinger Road in east Belfast, died from stab wounds following what police described as a “pub fight” at around 11pm.
He was found unconscious in nearby Cromac Street suffering from a stab wound to the stomach and died later in hospital. A 31-year-old also sustained a stab wound to the abdomen during the incident.
A man who was arrested in connection with the incident has since been released by police.
Last night (Tuesday) street violence again flared in the mainly nationalist Markets area of the city as police continued to investigate the stabbing.
In a second day of trouble in the area, officers were again attacked with bricks, bottles and stones. Officers in the area had previously been attacked on Monday morning.
South Belfast Sinn Féin Assembly member Alex Maskey reacted furiously to Monday's searches describing them as “heavy handed”.
However, Ulster Unionist MLA for east Belfast Sir Reg Empey said the disturbances had been orchestrated by republicans in an attempt to “move the focus from the crime to police action”.
