Halloween injuries up on previous year
The number of people injured over the Halloween period in 2004 increased on the previous years figures, it was revealed today.
The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety figures for the period 11th October to 8th November saw 55 people injured over Halloween, an increase of 10 from the 2003 figure.
The most common injuries were to the wrist or hand, 51% of all injuries, and the face, head or neck area, 22%. The majority of those injured were male, 85%, with 73% of those under the age of 20.
Just over a third of those injured were asked to revisit the Accident and Emergency Department at a later date, though one quarter of those injured required no further treatment, 15% were referred to their GP.
Seven persons were admitted to the same hospital or transferred to another hospital.
There were no fatalities over the same period.

14 people reported a firework related injury in the 2012 Halloween period, 17th October to the 14th Novemebr, according to statistics published today. This was 11 less than in 2011 and the lowest number since the data collection began in 1996, according to The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS).

The Bill, introduced by the SDLP's Pat Catney, is due to undergo its first reading in the Assembly.

Man stabbed in Co Tyrone assault
A man was stabbed and three others injured following an assault in Co Tyrone at the weekend. It is believed that up to eight people tracked the group of three men and one woman as they left a bar in William Street, Dungannon, at around 1.20am on Sunday morning. The group, who were all from Coalisland, were then attacked in Irish Street.

Website aims to cut down firework injuries
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) today launched a new website - www.saferfireworks.com - aimed at reducing the number of firework injuries in Northern Ireland. Last year 38 people where injured by fireworks in the province over the Halloween period, 75% of whom were males, mostly under the age of 20.
