Minister praises Lisburn Community Safety Partnership

Criminal Justice Minister John Spellar today praised the work of the Lisburn Community Safety Partnership (CSP) during a visit to its new premises in the city.

Speaking at the formal opening of the new offices Mr Spellar praised the work undertaken to date by local CSP’s, with one now in place in each Council area of Northern Ireland.

The Minister said: “The Chairman and members of Lisburn City Community Safety Partnership are to be commended for their endeavours and dedicated approach towards establishing the structures and practice in Lisburn that is conducive to tackling community safety issues in a professional, imaginative and holistic manner.

“In addition to the development of a local strategy, the Partnership has taken under its wing responsibility for a number of ongoing and very successful community safety projects, which demonstrates that it has the necessary combined skills and knowledge to deliver on the ground.”

Mr Spellar said credit should also go to the various statutory and non-statutory bodies, including local voluntary and community organisations across all 26 CSP’s in Northern Ireland, who work with the common aim of making local people less vulnerable to crime and anti-social behaviour.

“Their commitment and vision helps to develop an environment where the quality of life is improved through lessening the fear of crime,” he added.

The 26 Community Safety Partnerships in each Council area will complete three year Community Safety strategies by March 31 and will have their respective first year implementation plans in place by the Autumn.

Lisburn City CSP is one of 26 Community Safety Partnerships established following the Review of the Criminal Justice System and the NIO Community Safety Strategy which was launched in 2003.
