Primary school evacuated as fire rages in factory

A primary school has been evacuated following the outbreak of a serious fire at a nearby factory in Co Londonderry on Monday.

More than 60 firefighters are tackling the blaze at the SDC Trailers factory on the Deerpark Road, Castledawson, which was discovered at around 8.45am.

Thirteen fire appliances have been called to the scene of the blaze which is causing concern as there are a number of acetylene gas cylinders in the building.

Elsewhere, police in south Belfast are appealing for information following a malicious fire at the weekend.

Officers on patrol in the Markets area spotted the blaze in a shed at a house in McAuley Street at about a 9.45pm on Saturday.

The fire soon spread to a car before the fire service and police were dispatched. As officers prepared to leave the scene, they were stoned by a number of youths.

Anyone with information on the fire, or who saw anything suspicious in the McCauley Street area anytime before 9.45pm, is asked to contact police at Lisburn Road on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Two Fires At Derelict Factory In Co Tyrone Being Treated As Arson
Two fires at a derelict factory in Co Tyrone are being treat as arson. The first blaze started at Herdman's Mill in Sion Mills on Friday, 10 June, which caused substantial damage. The second fire was started on Saturday, 11 June, at around 8.30pm, and caused further damage. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Former Factory Destroyed In Fire
A disused factory in Bangor, Co Down, has been partially destroyed in a fire. The blaze happened overnight on Saturday. Police have said they are treating the fire as arson. At around 11.50pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Faulkner Road, located off the Clandeboye Road in the town.

Man dies at scene of factory blaze
More than 80 firefighters have been called to deal with a large fire at a factory in Co Londonderry on Thursday. The blaze broke out at the Sperrin Metal's manufacturing facility in Draperstown at around 9pm and one man is believed to have died at the scene, however the death is not thought to be related to the fire.

Fire crews deal with separate fires in Co Antrim
Police are appealing for information following two suspicious fires in Co Antrim in the early hours of Friday morning. The first fire was discovered at a factory unit in north Belfast at around 12 midnight. It is believed the blaze started when paper inside the unit was set alight. Some windows and two other units were damaged in the fire.
