SDLP MLA targeted in hoax bomb alert

SDLP MLA Eugene McMenamin has been targeted for the second time this week after a suspicious package was found on the windscreen of his car on Thursday.

The West Tyrone Assembly member’s wife discovered the device as she got into the vehicle in Strabane yesterday afternoon.

Mr McMenamin said: “I had parked my car near my office in Abercorn Square. I was just getting into it with my wife when we noticed the device on the passenger side windscreen. It was a clear plastic lunchbox about nine inches by four, with wires, a clock of some kind and a dark compound inside.”

Earlier this week, hoax letter bombs adressed to Mr McMenamin and two other members of Strabane DPP were discovered in the sorting office at Mallusk.

The hoax device discovered on Thursday was removed for forensic examination.
