Derry family escape injury in petrol bomb attack
A family of five in Maghera, Co. Derry, have escaped injury following a petrol bomb attack at their home on Thursday.
The family were in the house in Beagh Terrace, Maghera when two petrol bombs were thrown at the property shortly before midnight.
One of the devices partially exploded causing scorch damage to the front of the house, however the couple and their three children, aged 14, 18 and 24, were uninjured.
Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for Mid-Ulster Billy Armstrong hit out at those behind the attack.
“It was providence that no one was injured in this attack and our thoughts are with the family after this terrifying ordeal,” Mr Armstrong said. “Those persons who were responsible must be identified and brought before the courts before any other families are injured or killed in similar attacks.
“These thugs must be removed from our streets, and it is disappointing that we still have persons in our community whose only contribution is terrorising others.”
Police said they have yet to establish a motive for the attack and have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives at Magherafelt on 028 7963 3701 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
