Suspended BELB chief executive to return to job
The suspended chief executive of the Belfast Education and Library Board (BELB) is to return to his job next week after it was revealed that the Board is facing a legal bill of about £40,000 after agreeing to lift his suspension.
David Cargo was suspended in October after it was revealed his board had overspent by £5.4 million, however the BELB stressed the decision was no presumption of guilt with regard to their overspend which has run to over £5 million.
The decision to reinstate Mr Cargo came on Thursday, the day before he was due to challenge his suspension in the High Court.
In the High Court on Friday, a lawyer formally confirmed his reinstatement which was agreed after lengthy talks between the parties and their legal advisers.
Mr Cargo, who was on leave when the board decided to suspend him on 28 October, had challenged his suspension, saying it was unlawful because no offence had been alleged.
He is expected to return to his job on Monday.
