Five new CCTV cameras to be erected in Belfast

Police have confirmed that five new CCTV cameras will be installed in Belfast by March next year.

The cameras will be located at North Queen Street, North Street, Clifton Park Avenue, Workman Avenue and Oldpark Road and are aimed at reducing the number of sectarian crimes at interface areas.

Assistant Chief Constable Duncan McCausland said: "These cameras are erected for the safety of the whole community, to help reduce crime and the fear of crime. They are simply designed to ensure that communities can live in peace. In recent years, CCTV cameras have contributed to helping communities in Belfast live without the fear of attack.

“If the introduction of these cameras helps us to further reduce sectarian crime and ensure that communities live in peace that can only be positive.”

Mr McCausland said the introduction of the new cameras would also help police to tackle general crime especially in the area of Donegall Street and around the Yorkgate complex.
