Former Wycombe keeper unveiled as new IFA Chief Executive
The Irish Football Association (IFA) have confirmed that experienced sports administrator Howard Wells is to become their first ever Chief Executive.
Mr Wells, who is a former chief executive of English club sides Watford and Ipswich Town, was the inaugural chairman of UK Sport and also chaired the Central Council of Physical Recreation.
As well as ensuring that the IFA runs on a more professional basis, the 57-year-old will also be responsible for the implementation of the Soccer Task Force Strategy including the new National Stadium which is muted for the Maze site in Co Antrim.
Mr Wells is a former goalkeeper with Wycombe Wanderers a club where more recently current Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez was manager.
The IFA confirmed the appointment of Mr Wells as their new chief executive at a media conference in Belfast on Friday morning.

Executive Endorsement For Private Bore Wells Scheme Secured
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has secured the Executive’s agreement for a grant scheme that could benefit isolated rural households without access to mains water. Grants for a bore well will be available to owners and landlords of domestic properties, not served by a mains water supply.

The Irish Football Association (IFA) is losing out on £6m funding because there is no drug-testing programme in operation in local football. It has been reported that £6 million in National Lottery money is being held back by the Sports Council for Northern Ireland until the IFA takes action.
