Conference explores ways of tackling crime

Police officers have joined with members of District Policing Partnerships (DPPs), Community Safety Partnerships and local District Councils in a one-day conference to explore ways of working together to reduce crime in Northern Ireland.

It is hoped that the conference, entitled 'Your community – your concern: tackling problems in partnership', will improve the understanding of how police tackle crime, of the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders and identify ways to tackle local problems.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Sheridan said: "The is an important tool in helping us achieve our objective in making Northern Ireland safer for everyone.

“This is a very practical event where District Commanders will work with others with a stake in tackling crime and quality of life problems through working in partnership. The aim is to give all of those taking part an improved understanding of how the police tackle crime, of the roles and responsibilities of all the key local stakeholders and of how to identify ways to tackle local problems."

Organised by the PSNI Analysis Centre on behalf of Rural and Urban Regions within the Police Service, today’s conference involved police District Command Units (DCUs) and DPPs from East, West and North Belfast, Ards, Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon, Down, Dungannon and South Tyrone and Lisburn.
