Police treat teenager's stabbing as attempted murder

Police are treating the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy at the weekend as attempted murder.

The victim was walking through Laburnum playing fields in east Belfast early on Saturday when he was set upon by a number of men and stabbed several times before escaping from his attackers.

Found a short time later by police at the nearby Picardy Avenue, the teenager was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for a serious stab wound to the abdomen.

He remains in a critical condition following surgery.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at about 5am on Saturday to contact them.

Elsewhere, two people have been arrested after a man was struck with a baseball bat in Londonderry at the weekend.

The man was walking down Carlisle Road when people in a car drove past him shouting before striking him in the back with what is thought to have been a baseball bat.

Two men arrested in connection with the incident have since been release on bail.

Pensioner Targeted By Gang Of Masked Men
Police have appealed for information after a pensioner was targeted by a gang of masked men in East Belfast. The man was approached in the My Lady's Road area of the city by three men at around 8.30pm on Monday, 31 October. The suspects, armed with a baseball bat, searched the pensioner's home and took some cash.

Two men injured in separate baseball bat attacks
Two men have been attacked in similar but separate baseball bat attacks in north Belfast. At around 7.30pm a 36-year-old man was cycling near to Duncairn Gardens when a car pulled up alongside him. Three men wielding baseball bats got out of the car and attacked the victim before driving off towards Duncairn Gardens.

Two men die in separate stabbing incidents
Two people have been killed in separate stabbing incidents in Northern Ireland over the weekend. Hugh McKibben, 51, of Main Street in Carrowdore died in a stabbing incident at a house on Inisharoan Court about midnight on Sunday May 5. Four people were arrested following his murder but three have since been released on police bail.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Teenager Beaten And Shot In Strabane
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a shooting incident in Strabane, County Tyrone. At about 7.20pm on Wednesday night two masked men forced their way into a house in the Springhill Park area of Strabane, where a 19-year-old man was beaten with a baseball bat before being shot in the leg. The victim remains in hospital.
