NI bound plane in collision probe

An investigation has been launched after a Belfast bound plane collided with another aircraft at Manchester Airport on Thursday.

No one was injured in the accident after the BMI Baby Boeing 737 travelling to Belfast International and an Excel Airways Boeing 767 travelling to Goa hit each other on the runway outside Terminal Two.

The passengers on both aircraft were taken back to Terminal One to await alternative flights with the majority of the Belfast bound passengers returning to Northern Ireland on Friday.

One passenger described how they saw a piece of an aircraft wing sitting on the runway. “People were extremely scared,” he added.

A spokesman for BMI Baby confirmed an accident had taken place and that damage had been caused to one of their aircraft.

"We are not aware of any injuries to passengers or crew,” he said. "The incident is currently being investigated."
