Ballycastle to get major facelift
A Co Antrim town is to get a £187,000 facelift in the form of new lighting, pavements and kerbs, the Department for Social Development revealed today.
The latest phase in a wide-ranging programme to revitalise the look of a conservation area in the centre of Ballycastle, the refurbishment in Ann Street is to be jointly funded by DSD through a £111,000 grant to fund an Environmental Improvement Scheme, with the balance funded through the Department for Regional Development.
Henry Johnston, Director of the DSD Regional Development Office, said: "The new initiative will be a major improvement for the town centre which has already benefited from similar schemes in The Diamond and Castle Street. We are confident that it will provide a catalyst for further development in the town."
The project, which will enhance the overall appearance of the street, is being undertaken in partnership with Moyle District Council and DRD Roads Service.
Work is scheduled to start in mid January and to be completed by the end of March 2005.
