Local DJ launches new careers website
Matching the skills and interests of young people to prospective career paths is the key facet of a new website launched today by local DJ Sonya Mac at Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education.
Launching the website at www.careerserviceni.com, Sonya Mac explained how it would be of use to teachers, students and parents who are involved in making important decisions related to career planning.
"I can see real benefits in this website for young people wishing to find out what career best suits them,” she said. “Maybe DJ-ing is not for everyone, but novel features of the site, such as the Virtual Tour, will enable those logging on to get a feel for what career will be most rewarding for them."
The website includes many features, including help to find a careers office and Careers Adviser, job information and resources, qualifications and training pages, information on student life and a fun-zone.
It also contains the latest careers information including a virtual jobs page, where clients can see and hear various people at work and get a real flavour for their jobs.
John McKeown, head of the Careers Service, said he saw the launch of the website as key in helping young people, parents, the unemployed and those seeking a change of career to fulfil their ambitions.
"This website aims to present that same information in an easily understood, interesting and even fun format. I believe the site will enable those seeking direction to make informed decisions on their career, building on their skills, qualifications, experience and interests,” he added.

NI A-Level Grades Rise Slightly
There has been a slight increase in the amount of Northern Ireland students achieving the A* - C grade in this year's A levels, the Department of Education has said. The number rose to 83.7% from 83.5% in 2013. There was also a slight increase in the percentage of entries being awarded the top A* grade, rising from 7.2% last year to 7.3% in 2014.
