NIFTC claim success at Irish Film and TV Awards
A documentary which looks at the riots in Londonderry in 1969 has won an award at this year's Irish Film and Television Awards.
The Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission (NIFTC) funded documentary 'Battle of the Bogside' which looks ‘behind the barricades' at the riots that took place in Derry in August 1969, took the award for Best Documentary, a category that was dominated by Northern Irish talent.
Another NIFTC-financed production ‘Freeze Frame’, starring British comedian Lee Evans, scooped every category for which it was nominated including Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and Best New Talent for John Simpson.
Other winners from Northern Ireland included the Best Supporting Actress award in Film/Television go to local girl Susan Lynch for her role in ‘16 Years Of Alcohol’. Best Actor in a Feature Film, meanwhile, went to Tyrone's Gerard McSorley for his performance in ‘Omagh’, a film which centred on the 1998 Real IRA bombing of the Co Tyrone town.
This year's ceremony took place in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin at the weekend.

NI Film Fails To Impress At Oscars
There was disappointment in Los Angeles overnight for Northern Ireland after the movie 'short', The Crush, lost out to God of Love in the Live Action Short category at the Oscars ceremony. However, British film The King's Speech reigned supreme at this year's Oscars by winning four awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.

The Foyle Film Festival is set to take place this autumn, it has just been announced. Now in its 21st year, the Foyle Film Festival will be from November 21 to 29th and is now established as the flagship project of Derry's multi-media Nerve Centre.
