All-Ireland GAA star found guilty of assault
All-Ireland Gaelic football player James McCartan, 33, from Banbridge in Co Down has been found guilty of assault.
The incident happened during a game between Down and Westmeath in May 2003.
Westmeath player Kenny Larkin suffered a broken jaw during the incident. McCartan had denied deliberately punching Mr Larkin during the game which took place in Dublin.
Dublin District Court deferred the sentencing of McCartan until a later date.

Vigilantes who crucified man branded 'sick animals'
A gang of loyalist vigilantes who savagely beat and then nailed a man to a fence have been branded "spineless, sick animals". Deputy leader of the Alliance Party Eileen Bell said the crucifixion attack on 23-year-old Harry McCartan in Dunmurry on the outskirts of south Belfast was "an act of pure evil".

Rugby player dies during Ards game
A veteran rugby player who died during a rugby match at the weekend apparently took to the pitch to make up the numbers for the fixture. David Rainey, 49, volunteered to play in the Ards thirds match, but collapsed and died during the game with Cooke. A doctor who attempted to resuscitate the father of four was unable to revive him.
