UDA leaders part of grouping to meet Secretary of State

Senior members of the UDA leadership look set to meet the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland within the next few days, the BBC has reported.

The broadcaster claims that the Ulster Political Research Group will meet Paul Murphy early next week and that several of the UDA's most senior leaders will be involved in the discussions.

The NIO confirmed that Mr Murphy will meet both the Progressive Unionist Party and the Ulster Political Research Group next week however no response was forthcoming on specific individuals from either party or group.

The UDA claims to be on ceasefire but that is not recognised by the government. The Independent Monitoring Commission is due to report on continuing republican and loyalist paramilitary activity in the coming weeks.
