Disadvantaged labour market groups get £5m funding
Over £5 million has been allocated to projects which address the needs of groups who are disadvantaged in the Northern Ireland labour market.
Employment and Learning Minister Barry Gardiner today welcomed the results of the selection process to approve projects for the second round of the Northern Ireland Equal Community Initiative programme.
Unveiling the results of the process, Mr Gardiner said: "This is the second round of funding under the Equal programme, which sees over £5 million allocated to successful programmes.
“In the first round, six projects engaged in a number of innovative actions to address social exclusion, which have the potential to impact on and contribute to mainstream policy. I am happy to say that, in the second round, we are able to support 13 projects, including five which will consider aspects of equal opportunity in the labour market.”
Funded through the European Social Fund, Equal tests and promotes new means of combating all forms of discrimination and inequalities in the labour market, both for those in work and for those seeking work, through innovative actions and transnational co-operation.
