Co Down man jailed for raping daughter
A Co Down father who repeatedly raped and sexually abused one of his daughter’s over a 15-year period has been jailed for 17 years.
Trevor Carson, 57, was convicted in June of eight charges of rape, 18 of indecent assault and four of attempted buggery.
The four-day trial heard how the sexual abuse first began in 1982 when his daughter was aged just five and continued until 1998, when she finally left home.
Speaking at Downpatrick Crown Court, sitting in Antrim Courthouse on Tuesday, Judge Kennedy said Carson had sexually abused his own daughter at a time "when she was entitled to be protected by him, rather than to be abused" and that he had "groomed" his daughter for abuse.
His daughter said she wanted reporting restrictions lifted so that his name would be released.
Carson, whose address was given as William Street in Crossgar, was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.
