Police issue fresh appeal in McAlorum murder
Detectives investigating the murder of Kevin McAlorum outside Oakwood Integrated Primary School in Derriaghy in June have made a fresh appeal for information.
They have also released a photograph of a workman's helmet which was found at the scene of the murder and may have been used by the killers. The distinctive orange helmet was manufactured by a German company 'Enha' and is a 'Rockman C3' model.
Detective Inspector Philip Marshall of the PSNI's murder investigation team described the helmet as being of quite a unique brand and distinctive within Northern Ireland as it is thought that only around 50 have been imported here. Detectives are currently making checks to find out to who they have been distributed to.
Appealing specifically to those in the building trade, Detective Inspector Marshall said: "It may be the case that someone had their hat stolen from their work and it was never reported to the Police. If that is you, please come forward to the Police."
Detective Inspector Marshall also appealed to anyone who may be in possession of a yellow and black ‘Van Vault’ toolbox. The toolbox was in the back of a white transit van, used in the murder, which was stolen from roadworks on the M1 Motorway in February. It had its plates changed and was subsequently used in the murder four months later.
Detectives investigating can be contacted 028 9025 9712 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
