Arsonists linked to city centre fire
An investigation into the cause of Thursday’s fire at a four-storey building in the heart of Belfast is being linked to arsonists.
The building, containing Waterstone's bookstore and Goldsmith's jewellers, was severely damaged in the fire, however no major re-building work is likely to be needed following an examination by conservation architects.
Belfast Chamber of Commerce has confirmed that it will be holding an emergency meeting as a result of the fire, which affected a number of businesses in the city centre.
More than 100 firefighters were involved in the operation after the blaze caught hold in the building in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Approximately 25% of the second floor and 50% of the third floor of the building was damaged, while all of the fourth floor and roof structure were destroyed.
