Government’s to discuss outstanding Leeds issues next week
The government wants to see a resolution to the outstanding issues from Leeds Castle in weeks rather than months, Secretary of State Paul Murphy has said.
After Tuesday’s meeting between Mr Murphy and the new Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern, it was confirmed that another meeting will be held between the two governments next week.
Mr Murphy said: “We did make a lot of progress at Leeds Castle, we’ve continued that progress but there was also difficult issues, about accountability and other matters which we are still working on to try and get as much consensus as possible.
“As well as that, we await the other issues which are important to the development of the process with regard to decommissioning and with regard to paramilitary activity.
“Those issues are very much the issue of the day and there has and will be intensive discussion at official level and the governments will meet again next week,” he added.
