Carroll set for NI start
Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll has been recalled to the Northern Ireland starting line up ahead of tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Austria at Windsor Park.
The Enniskillen man last played for Lawrie Sanchez’s side in the 0-0 draw with Switzerland in August. He replaces Maik Taylor who is currently one yellow card away from suspension.
David Healy will also start for Northern Ireland tonight after missing Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Azerbaijan following his red card against Wales last month.
Manager Lawrie Sanchez also looks like handing a start to Sunderland defender George McCartney who is fit again after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Anything less than a win for Northern Ireland tonight will effectively end any chance of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Expected Northern Ireland team from: Carroll, McCartney, Hughes, Williams, Murdock, Gillespie, Doherty, Whitley, Johnson, Healy, Quinn.
