Microsoft open first-ever Belfast office
The world's largest software company has opened its first-ever office in Belfast today.
Microsoft said its decision to set up a base at the Northern Ireland Science Park would enable the company to provide e-business and other support to clients in both parts of Ireland.
Speaking at today's event, Joe Macri, General Manager, Microsoft Ireland said: “This investment signifies the success that we have enjoyed to date and is a result of the quality partnerships that we have formed with customers, independent software vendors, our distribution channel, the government and its agencies.
“By opening an office in the Northern Ireland Science Park we are positioning ourselves for future success and growth alongside the vibrant technology industry within the region and will be well positioned to help our customers, partners and the local industry realise their potential.”
Leslie Morrison, Chief Executive of Invest NI, who are assisting the £700,000 investment, said the venture would further enhance Northern Ireland's reputation as a globally competitive location for added value mobile investments.
"I am delighted to welcome Microsoft to Northern Ireland, it’s a name which will be extremely beneficial in encouraging other major ICT companies to locate here," he added.
Microsoft’s operations in Northern Ireland have already been recognised within Microsoft Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region as having set benchmarks in a number of areas.
Specifically, the Northern Ireland Office’s Criminal Justice Integration Project, Causeway, rolled out in partnership between Fujitsu, HP & Microsoft, and the C2K schools project, have been highlighted as best in class for the application of technology in eGovernment and in education respectively.
In addition, Northern Ireland partner, NITEC Solutions was awarded Microsoft Partner of the Year at a European Microsoft event earlier this year.

Technology giant Microsoft is to establish a Cyber Security Centre in Belfast creating 85 new jobs for the city. The Department for the Economy has committed £800,000 for pre-employment training courses at Belfast Met. The Assured Skills Academies will help professionals compete for the vacancies.
