Jobs increase is 'good news' for NI economy
Northern Ireland has reached a new high on the jobs front, with figures released today showing a net increase of 2,910 over the quarter.
According to the latest Quarterly Employment Survey, the total number of new jobs for the year now stands at 12,210.
Enterprise Minister Barry Gardiner said that this was "good news" for the economy and reflected a sustained period of jobs growth in Northern Ireland over the last five years.
He added: "The economy must continue to create well paid and highly skilled employment. Investing in the future through innovation and research and development is the key to our long-term success."
Unemployment levels remain low in the province and the total number stands at 29,400, down 5,100 over the year. The overall unemployment rate of 5.1% is now well below that of four other UK regions - London (7.2%), Scotland (6.0%), the North East (5.4%) and the West Midlands (5.2%).
